I was on the Johnson Smith mailing list as a kid in the sixties, but the catalog was not like this one. Yes, in 1938, it was possible to buy real guns--not just blank shooters or BB guns, cigarettes, tobacco, smoking accessories, some wicked looking knives and even a grape concentrate for home wine making mail order. (Left over from Prohibition, perhaps.) A look through the catalog will give a better understanding of popular culture of the day and quite a few ironic laughs.

Catalog of Novelty Items
This toy catalog has tons of illustrations of vintage amusements and mass produced knick knacks.
Sadly the catalog is extremely racist. Explicit unamerican hate speech is found throughout the catalog.
